A decision on a new £5million primary care centre in Westbury is likely to be made this week despite a delay in the application due to a dispute over the land.
The centre is planned for land off Mane Way, on the Leigh Park estate, in a joint funded venture between Westbury Group Practice, comprising Eastleigh and White Horse Surgeries in Westbury, Bratton Surgery, and NHS Wiltshire.
The development would include nine GP rooms, five treatment areas, a minor operations suite, a seminar room, mobile diagnostics centre, an outpatient X-ray facility and a dental surgery.
A decision on the application, which was submitted in July, has been delayed following a dispute concerning the land where the centre is proposed to be built.
The application was temporarily withdrawn but according to NHS Wiltshire is now back on track.
Two of the investors from Westbury Group Practice, Debbie Riddiford and Dr Debbie Beale, who work out of Eastleigh Surgery in Station Road, were unavailable for comment but NHS Wiltshire spokesperson, Sarah MacLennan, said: “Eastleigh Surgery had a few details to iron out with regards to the land. They have now been resolved.
“We have been told that a decision should be made next week.”
A Wiltshire Council spokesperson added: “The application is still live at the moment but has been delayed by request of the applicant. We cannot confirm at this point whether it will be approved or not, and the outcome will only be decided once all recommendations have been considered.
“The Local Member for the area did not call the matter in after the Westbury Town Council supported the application so it will not have to go to the planning committee.”
The plans also include a new bus stop and lay-by, allaying fears over access to the new centre by public transport, as well as a charging bay for mobility scooters and a taxi rank.
The centre received the backing from the town council’s highways, planning and development committee in August with only Cllr Francis Morland voting against the plans.
